They don't. This was just a huge idea, and it could solve our Masteria-Ossyria transport if they don't get the Antellion up. (or it could be an alternate way to travel)
Pap and Elpam are nothing alike, except the skin. Yet that was enough on Crimsonwood enemies to get speculation about "CWK enemies are from Versal" up.
Pap is a plant, in search of energy. Being mutated and/or from Versal, he cannot gather energy in the normal way (ie sun). Therefore, what better way to get it than to leech it off an energy source, or the Time Sphere, as it so happens to be?
On the "MesoGears = Catacombs" thing, I can see how Crimsonheart hid something to his grave, but I cannot see entering the ruins of Old Sappe Village. We need room for the Pharoah's Gate / Yetinx, after all.
