There is a difference between having a disagreeable opinion and having an inferior opinion. Making an insightful argument that counters mine would still merit consideration. I'm open to the fact that I can be wrong. But assuming that I will respect an opinion, without bothering to explain why that opinion deserves respect and further consideration is another matter entirely. Often times we cite journal articles as evidence, bring up statistics, and other forms of arguments to strengthen the validity and respect other people should have for our opinions. In Ayn Rand's book "The Fountainhead" this is called integrity. Integrity is fundamental to truth as it brings into focus the objective, the mathematical, and other forms of observation to enforce our subjective reasoning. It acknowledges a truth outside of our own reasoning and takes that into account before selfishly advocating a single idea, our idea, my idea, or your idea. That is integrity and I respect the opinions of people who make that extra step to come closer to the truth.
