Pretty off topic there, Omni. I did not say "old equals bad." My sentence got cut off there at the end, but what I was going to say was "Obscurity doesn't equal 'good.'" Many, many people love to recommend obscure titles, as if to say "look what I've watched!" You may or may not be like that, but you're recommending some pretty obscure shows.
On the old note, though: In general, old anime are regarded as worse than newer (2000s+) anime. It's not just the visuals (though that certainly is a plus). Older anime might not pertain to us anymore. Their target audiences were anime fans of the 70s, 80s, etc. We're in the 2010s, and anime has changed - maybe not for the better, but you know more people like it this way or else things like K-ON! wouldn't be so ridiculously popular.
Robotech was popular back in its day, but it's not popular today. Today, we have Bakemonogatari. We have K-ON!. We don't have Robotech. It's not that people shouldn't disregard things like Robotech, it's that people don't. Who's going to dig through hundreds of web pages to find the original Fist of the North Star? Heck, I don't think anybody even bothered to translate all 100+ episodes of that 80s anime.
And if you still don't believe that I was talking about something different: I mentioned Ushiro no Shoumen Daare in my first post in this thread. I watched that thing, 220p VHS quality, on my computer and I could barely make out the subtitles, but I loved it. Watch it if you have the time. Beats the pomegranate out of Grave of the Fireflies or any war anime.
