They took it down (in all servers) because of the glitch that kept pie/cake bosses coming back after humiliating defeat (i.e., if all 9 got killed).
One channel being down means there is always one channel in which the boss is undefeated, and thus 9-0 knockouts are averted.
Seems kind of excessive, but I guess their developers just couldn't figure out what was wrong, or couldn't generate a fix in reasonable time, or the managers didn't want another emergency maintenance.
