A smooth ice shard to the shoulder wouldn't be that hard to fix. It'd start melting immediately, so there's no problems getting it out, and it looked way too high to hit a lung. Plus, these people have <magic>...a puncture wound would be fixed nicely by Curaga or something of the sort.

And since a curaga can fix that Huge ice shard, why didn't anyone heal Aerith when she got stabbed in the stomach ?
