Hold on. Either way, both makes sense:
#1: In this game, you can use healing (Cure, Cura, etc) and resurrection (Life, Phoenix Down, and Full-Life?). So technically, Squall can be resurrected if you think of it within the game's battle system. Yes, you can revive people. Who is to say that Squall did not die, but got revived? This can make sense too. Though more unlikely.
#2: Before he died, he had dreams a couple seconds before that. The end of the game signifies that he really perhaps did die.
Either way, I think this was done intentionally to make the players think a bit more. Also, FF7 are for fanboys. Lol...
