She is a pure-bred Labrador Retriever and she understands English.
Dogs don't really have the mental capacity to learn a large amount of English like humans, but yes, dogs can learn English, well, more like the sounds of English. Dogs do have a heightened sense of hearing and, like humans, as puppies can tell what is being said around them. But if I had to guess, a dog could only learn around 50-100 English words.
Her hobbies are playing fetch, and watching Animal Planet (She enjoys watching polar bears)
I can tell her to go get X or go to Y and she understands
(where X can = bone, ball, toy, baby (her stuffed animal))
(where Y can = the: living room, outside, inside, the car, bed, my bed)
I'd like you to try a linear equation on her!
She is very very smart about playing.
If i hide things from her (be it a bone, a toy, or a ball) she will search for it until i tell her to stop or i get it for her.
She also somehow knows moods of people. If someone is sad or lonely.
If you believe in biology/evolution, dogs have a "mammalian" brain of which we also have that controls some of our various emotions such as fear, anger, and the like. It is located a bit underneath our reptilian brain of which controls our involuntary reflexes. All I'm trying to say if that dogs can tell certain emotions that you are omitting as they also can feel them. That's why some people would rather have a dog than a boyfriend/girlfriend
Nice story though. I used to have a puppy dog of which I found when I was like 7 years old. I was dreaming/praying/hoping at the time to get a dog and my parents just didn't want to bother with that kind of commitment. Then along came a loose 1-year old Doberman Pincher outside of my house looking just plain scared and goofy. She was just wandering around so I had to go grab a piece of bologna to entice her to get off the damn street. I kept her inside the fence for the first while, thinking how much I wanted this dog, how unexpected this was, and just how nice of dog she was. The humane society couldn't come until the next day so I kept her all night long and I just loved her from then on. The humane society did come and take her, much to my crying and disbelief
But I got her back a week or so later, and it was like the best gift ever. I had her for 8 years after that until she got sick and I had to get her put down. Still makes me sad to think about it.
