Kid Confused by Gay Marriage

Who's to say anyone would be telling him that being gay was wrong?

To be honest, I have no problem with gays. However, I do feel that it is appropriate to sort of shelter children from the concept at such a young age. If my child is gay later in life, on their own accord, then w/e. But, I'd rather not have my child knowing about things like that when they're still innocent. It is just like someone showing a kid hardcore porn (don't think I'm equating being gay to hardcore porn). Sure, they're going to see it sometime int heir life, but they just aren't ready for it at that age.

EDIT: I guess another thing that could be similar to a situation like this is cussing. Do I care that people cuss? No. Would I want them cussing around my children? Of course not. Will my children eventually cuss? Yes, but hopefully they'll learn it at a more appropriate age. Though, of course, in regards to cussing, that will probably never happen because it is EVERYWHERE.

I actually partially agree with this. I believe sheltering a child is wrong, and that one should allow them to learn and understand something when their curiosity drives them to seek such understanding. However, there are things in this world where it is safe to not introduce younger children to until they demonstrate such a thirst for knowledge. At the same time, though, "limits" need to be set up for cases like these. For example, when learning about anything pertaining to homosexuality, such fact should be taught alongside the heterosexual fact. One specific instance would be in learning about sexual education. In later stages of sex ed where abstinence is taught, like programs in high school, means of sex employed by homosexuals for pleasure should be explored as it is understood students understand the pleasurable nature of sex by this point (why abstinence must be taught). I'm not saying you introduce and discuss the biological process of anal sex, but rather mention it as a means for sexual pleasure that all sexual orientations can employ, and mention that it is thus used most commonly by homosexual males.

Regulation on knowledge is definitely a tricky subject, but I believe that with such caution and observation as to one's capabilities of maturity and curiosity, the right decisions can be made with knowing when to divulge certain information.

No worries; Kurtle's only in his mid-teens anyways. He's extremely hormonal and highly impressionable from his peers over his parents. While his cognitive abilities may have increased far beyond those of his peers, affording him a unique maturity that allows him to discuss topics usually studied by his older peers, he may still be confused between "right" and "wrong" in his search for identity. Therefore, while his points may follow a plausible logic flow, his information is lacking and affords him a lone, one-sided approach to the issue at hand.

Kurtle, if you want to discuss this further I'd be happy to debate via PM. You're bright for your age and curious in more abstract, complex ideas in this world, as evidenced by the plethora of quotes, symbols, and pictures of Ayn Rand and her famous Atlas Shrugged that permeate your signature and avatar, and thus I would like to hear what you have to say about the issue, provided you'll open your mind to what I have to say as well.
