Even though I'm finally off maple now and playing Bad Company 2 on xbox live, looking back, all what's wrong with maple are two things:
[1] Getting to lvl200 is an unhealthy bar and goal (level 150, or the time to reach level 150 would have been a lot better) for those who want to play for free, or spend just a -few- bucks on maple, getting to lvl200 costs a shietload of money or otherwise a shietload of time if you're unwilling to pay a few hundred bucks. This is one of the causes of a lot of the hacking/scamming/drama/fraud.
[2] While Maplestory was designed on a -MICRO- transaction system, Nexon America turned Maple into a -MACRO- transaction system. And also don't forget none items are permanent (like kMS), resulting into a game that costs a shietload more for the players then it was designed to be, also this results into all the hacking/scamming/drama/fraud.
The odd part here is that Nexon (America) is the laughing third person. They already made a shietload of money with Maple, at the cost of their unaware new (and most of them, very young) players, who keep coming to this game as new lvl1 noobs, like an infinite fountain of money for Nexon...
Comparing Maplestory to other games money-wise, it has such a bad performance, also when you look at what you get in return of getting to a high level (120+), really. When you look at WoW for example (which ironically costs SO much less per year compared to the amout of money "enthusiast" maple players spend on it), WoW offers -SO- incredible much more when you reach the end-game level / content.
But yeah, I guess that's the downfall of the "Free-to-play-Pay-to-enjoy" MMO's... it looks like the money and effort are worth it, while in fact, in the end you realize it's a shietty game afterall...
Anyway, don't expect Nexon to respond to this publicly, the most they'll do is release more 2x EXP events, which make even more money for them...
But again, well done Sarah!
I can't agree with your first 2 points. Getting to level 200 is a doable goal, they could set it to level 1000, and it wouldn't matter. That doesn't effect the quality of the game. Secondly there is no problem with their NX system. There was one game in China where you were rewarded for spending the most every day.
If you are going to talk about problems, talk about people getting banned for NX fraud, even if they have never charged. Or the hacking epidemic.
