I don't think it's fake, Adobe's been working on this for a while now. But I do have my doubts.
You probably have to have a picture that's "about right" and do a lot of touch-ups after-wards. You probably can't see it since of the quality, there will be areas that look unatural and you'd have to go in there manually.
Needless to say though, it does save a lot of time.
P.S. I didn't think the desert demo was so great, the patched area was obviously too dense compared to the other side, very unnatural.
