Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA/252 Spd/6 HP
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
This is based on the Substitute Special set on Smogon. I loved that set, but the lack of power behind Shadow Ball is frustrating sometimes. However, Subsitute and Life Orb normally would've lead to Gengar losing an extreme amount of HP just to function, which is bad, so when Pain Split came out I immediately went back to this original set. It seems to work wonders - Shadow Ball is now much stronger and can 1HKO breloom and still severely dent most water types, and Focus Blast can now 2HKO Scizor if it tries to Pursuit you isntead of Bullet Punch (assuming you have a sub up, of course).
The idea behind the set is simple - switch Gengar in on something that can't hurt it much (choiced attacks on one of its immunities in most cases), sub on the switch, and go from there. It's very easy to use and pretty annoying to your opponents.
