Shinto [Bio page]

Smooth Criminal Wrote:Tobias, I'm not certain how you intend on working with the different personalities inside of Tobias but I'm certain at some point your character might want to stop relying on Black. But if you bust out Black all the time for most of the combat, it seems a tad rigged. Let regular Tobias do some fighting on his own first; given he's not as strong as Black and it seems fair. The way I see it, you should use Black like Naruto uses the nine-tailed fox in Naruto.

fuckin' mind reader.

i'd already had that in mind. White keeps Black's power in check, but as Tobias acts as their vessel he has the final say in how much power he draws out of either or. The scythe is capable of changing colors on the fly so theres no real draw-back there, but the scythe acts independently from Black and White, its just the conduit that allows him to draw out their power. With Black's all consumption, if Tobias draws out too much power while overriding White, then of course he will end up killing himself with Black's power. the same can also be said about White: if he taps too much into White then he will lose the ability to use either of them, and become a normal human. The scythe was named Equinox because after a while Tobias knew that these outcomes would be the case. notice in the first bio post i made he conjured a pole and not a scythe, that was deliberat. It was only after the two demons grew in power that he was able to turn it into a scythe at his will.

i thought of making tobias capable of turning anything into a bladed weapon, but that just wasnt right for me. he could just pick up a baseball bat and turn it into an axe, pick up a gun and turn it into a bayonet, so on and so on. it just was too gimmicky. Instead i made it he was just a highly traumatized boy that suffers through the memories of his past and his spirit wavered when he was younger. He saw demons all around him all the time while no one else could around him, he was labeled as insane. its why i said i spent a good 4 hours developing his character because i had to plan all of this out.

But back to point. Yes, relying on either black or white too heavily will cause him to lose them permanently, whether its by a suicidal implosion of Black, or a catastrophic explosion of White. He named the scythe Equinox as a reminder of that, knowing that Equinox was a time when night and day were at a half-to-half ratio of length he would have to keep his own night and day balanced.

I planned to have examples of this, but for lack of a better term Tobias is best described as a close to mid range fighter. Using the scythe he can attack from both, and by tapping into Black he focuses more on closer ranged opponents, while still keeping open the option for ranged combat i.e. creating a singularity ala Mass Effect only instead of just drawing things towards it and immobilizing them, lifting them in the air, it acts as a true singularity and will devour things that get too close to it, like a black hole. With White, the focus is more ranged than close quarters. with a basic attack a pulse, wave, or beam can be fired, repelling light and using it to attack, or for the close ranged option act as a barrier. sure i'd like to make it impenetrable, in that its like a never ending bubble shield if Tobias so wished, but wheres the fun and drama in that? Hence the limitation of power. Tobias must vary his attacks and utilize both black and white, or risk losing them forever.

also a side note: with the white bladed scythe, i had in mind a pretty fun way to use it up close...
