They don't have to, but every MMO company out there should know how to address situations, and know how to reward and/or compensate players if the game's company is at fault. For example, look at Blizzard. I don't play World of Warcraft, but I have plenty of friends who does, and Blizzard does a great job at keeping their customer service in-tact and great.
