Whiny defiance to explain your apathy is hypocritical, and in the end you're still perpetrating negative connotations also attached to the term. I care deeply about the issue as I'm affected by it and have seen the repercussions of the negative connotation, and thus I open my mouth when I see such actions. You, on the other hand, claim to "not care" how others respond to the slang, so commenting on my reaction is contradictory to your emotions. In other words, if you truly don't care, don't respond - don't be way over dramatic. Oh, and yeah, call me gay when I'm surrounded by a group of homo-hating people riled up to the point of violence and you bet my ass is going to get murdered. That wouldn't be the case if you called me "dumb" or an idiot.
And Spidey, that's a horrible example since "mad" and "angry" have never been used as slang for unrelated words. Instead, you should have used "lame" as an alternate for "dumb"...but then, of course, the disabled community would be all over you. Interesting, though, how you chose not to use that comparison.
