Sunlight broke through the window, bathing the inside of his bedroom with light. He stirred in his bed, another restless night spent in his dreams. Dreams filled with memories of his past, of all the demons he slayed. Tossing and turning as the light from the early morning sun hit his face and woke him from his restless slumber.
"Good morning boy. Are you awake yet?" Already, Black was there. He stirred, rubbing the dirt from the corners of his eye. He slowly got up and rose out of bed, yawning and stretching out his arms and back. He glanced over at the clock on the wall. He let out a sigh and walked over to the closet.
"It's only 7:00... I didn't even get four hours of sleep." He grunted as he stripped off his old shirt and pants and put on his new school uniform. He had arrived a week in advance, to survey the town, as well as to gather the supplies he would need in his new school. For the past 3 days, he managed to find a rather cheap clock with a picture of some anime creature on the face, a small night-stand, and a desk. He spent another day going out and purchasing the necessary garments for his school uniform. During this time he left Equinox at home, he wasn't sure how the people would react to seeing a foreigner wielding a massive scythe concealed inside of a guitar bag, but he did not want to find out either.
"Boy, how many times have I told you you need to stop trying to fight those demons, and start understanding them? They have tremendous powers, powers the likes of which you can't even begin to fathom," said Black, nagging at the insides of his head. His voice was coarse, jagged, tired. He knew that Black was not happy with his current predicament. Tobias walked over to the mirror to inspect his uniform and make sure that his tie was straight and his newly styled hair was neat. "And what the hell is this? Your hair was just fine before," started Black, fading into view next to Tobias' reflection. "And you even died it? That bastard half of us has gotten to you again, boy. I want you to change your hair back to its black color, now."
"Look, Black," Tobias started, answering to his reflection, "I'm not from this land. I need to make myself look approachable if I want to get any answers here. It's bad enough that I couldn't help but notice the large amount of demons in this damned town. I came here to try and get away from them, not get further involved."
Suddenly, White appeared in the mirror, standing on the opposite side of Black, behind Tobias. He laid his hand on Tobias' shoulder and smiled. "Listen, Tobi, you have a great power. That scythe you have hidden away, that is your, our tool. It is as much a part of you as we are." White and Black faded out of the reflection and retreated back into his mind. He started to feel unsure about going to school; he was nervous about starting over in a strange world.
He walked over to the closet and grabbed his school bag, and slung it over his shoulder. He then walked over to the door and pulled on the knob. A shivering chill ran down his arm and up his spine. "Am I really ready for this?" he asked himself before leaving his small apartment room.
Along the walk to the school, he saw a stray demon floating above some young boy. He was wearing a school-child's school uniform, and was walking along with his parents and other small children. The demon looked harmless, merely watching over the boy as he, like Tobias, was walking to school. While he was out gathering his supplies, he noticed that several others walking down the streets and sidewalks were carrying guns, swords, and even in one case an axe. When he tried to approach them and ask why they carried their weapons out in public, he was shocked to hear the response.
"Hey, almost everyone here can see these demons," said a little kid with spiked hair, died green. "Some aren't really all that bad, and some even help. I carry my Midori Kitsune here for when I spot a demon thats out to cause harm to others," said the young man carrying a bladed ring. It looked almost like an oversived hula hoop to him. "Why, you gotta problem with that foreign-guy?"
"No, no problem, I'm sorry," said Tobias faintly. "Just, where I'm from, no one else really notices the demons..." Tobias looked up and saw a plane flying in the sky, its engines letting out a loud roar through the air.
"Well, look mister, I've got to get going now. See ya later!" The boy ran off down the sidewalk, nimbly dodging people left and right as he ran. Well, thought Tobi, at least the name is fitting of his weapon. He turned back and looked again at the list in his hand, and resumed shopping for various items.
Off in the distance, Tobias looked up and saw the building slowly start to appear. The gate was surrounded by many large bushes and shrubberies, several benches dotted along the sidewalk. He thought he saw a girl leaving something hidden behind one of the bushes, but a passing train obstructed his view and forced him to wait until he could get a better glimpse of what was there. While he was standing there, he saw another person standing next to him. He was tall, probably 6'1", and had short buzzed-cut hair. He was wearing the same uniform as Tobias, and was carrying a tiny piccolo in his hands.
"Heh, what kind of pansy carries a fucking baby flute around with him, eh boy?" The man turned and looked down at Tobi, and gave him a very angry look.
"You say something, punk? You say something about my piccolo?" Tobias could see that his right hand was clenched into a tight fist. Tobias just stood there and stared him down.
"No, I didn't say anything." Tobias and the guy stared at each other for a good few moments more, each trying to out-glare the other. Eventually Tobias turned his head forward out of boredom, and sighed. "I apologize if my words offended you, they were not my own."
"Listen up kid," the other student started, "I dunno who you are, or who you think you are, but lemme set this straight, okay? I'm in charge here, you got that?" He put out his hand and pointed his big index finger at Tobias' chest. Tobias quickly grabbed it and pulled it backwards. His eye grew sinister and his brow furrowed.
"And I don't know who you think YOU are, kid! I aint that platypus Tobias, I won't hesitate to smash your face against the ground you little maggot," said Black. The voice was coarse still, raspy with fatigue. The student pleaded for him to let go of his hand, and Tobias smiled with a sinister sneer. "Next time I see your fucking face, I will not hold back from breaking it in. Got that!?"
Just then the train had finally finished passing by, and Tobias walked over the tracks, his normal blank expression on his face. The other student was curled up in a fetal position on the ground and crying, clutching his hand. His poccolo was lying on the ground in front of him, broken in half.
As he walked closer to the building, Tobias heard the sounds of the bells starting to chime, and saw the gate to his school starting to close. He saw several other boys and girls, all dressed similarly, running for the school. He decided to follow suit and run as fast as he could. He did not want to be late coming in to his first day of class in a new school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now the fun begins with the exploration of Black and White.
not only are they voices in his head just that, when they speak they use him as a medium. Is Tobias a schizophrenic, or is he haunted? And what about the scythe, what's the story about that?
Next up please.
and sorry guys, ill leave my entry a bit... well, you'll see.
