It is a horrid and decrepit world we live in. The media is constantly bombarding our senses with pain, despair, suffering, and hate. People look upon each other with distrust, loathing, suspicion, disgust, and fear. The world has always been like this, and the world will always be like this. The world is unfair, the world is callus towards its people. It's only natural for people to search for happiness; some people think material things will bring them happiness, some people think lots of carnal intimacy with other people will bring them happiness, some simply give up and turn to drugs to numb it all.
All those things are ever able to do are make people content and numb to the pains of loneliness, rejection, depression, and sorrow.
A waifu is a modern day romantic's small piece of joy and non-perverted pleasure, someone to love, look after, protect, and cherish, even if only in the mind.
Some may think of my waifu may be nothing more then some middle-aged man's idea to make money by putting ink to paper and hoping it sells from the other side of the world. Nay, for it isn't simply ink and paper as people perceive. It isn't the page you love. When one looks at a photo of their wife, they realize it's not the photo they love but the person in the photo. Others may look down on the very thought of her, but that does not mean she is any less precious to me.
To you, my waifu.
