It isn't on par with 2x exp cards at all. We mark the rankings for anyone who uses them, because you have to kill half the mushies as opposed to the guy who doens't buy it. Islandering is a grindfest and who can grind farther, and that achievement shouldn't be ignored because of someone who used money and did half of that.
Do Islanders consider MTS purchase to be "cheating?"
MTS isn't considered cheating since virtually anyone can earn NX if they can't buy it(10% overall dex is available on island, not to mention maple items dropped during the event).
How has MTS changed Maple Island?
Some islanders, like myself (NoJobNoRules, lvl 42 in Bellocan), refuse to use it. missw3etooth doesn't use it either and she's the highest legit islander atm. I choose not to use it because if I want to use offisland equips, I'll make a perma. I'll continue to use my white rose/maple sword until I switch to my blue rose/soul singer.
Most islanders choose to use it if they get into a decent 2x level or higher. I rarely see any new islander that gets 3x+ and doesn't use it. Most have accepted the fact that it exists, and you might as well use it.
How has MTS changed Maple Island?
Aside from those of us who don't use it, it makes finding equips and scrolls unimportant. Landing a 10% Helm Def on a Green Headband/White Bandana or a 10% Shoe Jump on a White Gomushin is no longer an awesome feat. 13 Def Blue One Line T Shirts are no longer the perfect equip, and those that use MTS could care less about finding Ice Jeans.
Many of them don't grind as much since they don't have a reason to unless they have some equip they want to wield and think they can reach that level(green paint brush at level 30, etc).
Has the community diminished since MTS came out?
I'd say yes. Even Scania isn't as active as it used to be. I think Islanders as a class are starting to die out. One of the big things was that you had limited armors and weapons to use on island. With MTS, aside from a few things they excluded, the possibilities of what you can yield on island are now limitless. It took away from it.
As for the advantage to using it: Heck yea its there. NoJobNoRules is currently level 42. If I moved over my Icarus 2 Cape, my Bone Helm, and bought a glowing whip, I would have these stats for my Speed/Jump:
40 Speed (8(bone) + 10(ic2) + 4(gomushins, +1 10%) + 18(glowing whip))
10 Jump (5(gomus) + 5(bone))
Not to mention I could probably get some 10-13 Jump Pants if I really wanted to.
That speed/jump boost would allow me to move way faster then normal and kill monsters a lot faster. Even something like a Maple Umbrella, which only gives around 12 speed, has proven to be faster training then a White Rose or Maple Sword.
Defense isn't that big of an issue since they nerfed the damage on monsters. You can easily take 1 Defense without putting much effort into it, regardless of using MTS. Red Pots drop often enough that the chance of you even dieing after level 12 or so is pretty small.
Weapon attack makes a huge difference though. Pure STR islanders can easily have a minimum damage reaching 9x or 10x and have a max of going up to over 1k. That definitly beats my 3x ~ 58x range with a White Rose.
