Are you sure the labtop just didn't delete the os doing to it breaking down. He could of Save the information if he had an external drive enclosure. But then if the hard disk was scratched its completely useless. For $150 he probably just bought you a new hard drive and installed it. You can try going into Start menu-Computer-C drive-and look for the folder windows old if that is your hard drive. If he did do a whole new reinstall all your old programs,pictures,etc are in that folder. You could ask him for the old hard drive if he has it and Salvage the information off it yourself as well.
