You have a barrel of oil, and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?



If your sock drawer has 6 dotted socks, 4 brown socks, 8 white socks, 12 black socks, and 2 tan socks, how many socks would you have to pull out in the dark to be sure you had a matching pair?

Fll the 3-gallon container twice and pour to fill up the 5-gallon container: 3 + 3 = 5 + 1 (extra, which is left in the 3 gallon container)

I personally hate doing things without being able to use my eyes lol. Anyway: since we eliminate the situation where we have no matching socks, which means only 5 socks (one each type), drawing 6 will guarantee a matching pair at least.

Snce they're guaranteed to be tagged wrongly:
- Take 1 tag from the first box, open it to investigate the color inside.
- Take the matching tag from the so-called 2nd box and tag that box.
- Take the tag on the 3rd box and put it on the 2nd box (since the tag doesn't belong to the 3rd box, and the 1st box already has its tag), and place the tag on your hand on the 3rd box.

The gold and silver chest have the same statement, therefore each of them can't be telling a lie while the other tells the truth. They can't both be lying as well since the portrait can't be in 2 boxes (Lead box will have to tell the truth.) Conclusively, they have to be telling the truth, and the Lead box, as the rule stated, has to be lying. The portrait is in the Gold Box, brb buying nx.
