From my experience using autoHP, there are two main situations that cause auto pot not to work, you just have to know and look out for them.
if you use any pot (hp/mp) right before getting hit it wont activate
if you are in the middle of certain skills while getting hit it wont work; eg if i get hit while im casting octopus, 90% of the time autopot wont work however it works just fine if i get hit while casting air strike.
