1.) Click Maker Skill icon to open the skill window -> click Category, choose Monster -> Choose Monster Crystal on the next drop down box, put ETC items in the middle box on the top row, click Create -> Voila.
2.) Nope, mainly just mainstream ETCs and a few out-of-place ones. Himes' don't work, neither do those from Masteria.

If so, you have to grade/appraise them yourself.

- Ungraded refined gem -> Basic refinement: This process requires 110k mesos, you have certain chances for receiving Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Graded Gems, look around for the %s. This process succeeds 100%.
- Basic gems -> Intermediate refinement: This process requires more mesos, I think 550k and you only have 1 output: Intermediate gems (with a certain % chance of success.)
- Intermediate gems -> Advanced refinement: Same as above.
