Ugh..scouts. That went from fun to horrible fast. I was in it from 1st-3rd grade. It wasn't bad until 3rd grade when my mom decided to be my troup leader. I thought it wouldn't be bad, until she forced me to do every last goddamn program offered because she said it would look bad on her if the kid of the troup leader didn't participate in everything. There was one activity thing called "God and me". I was one of only like 6 kids to have to do this, and I only showed up for like 2 weeks. I think I started getting turned off of religion after that. It was at some church downtown that I had never been to, and wasn't even the religion our family was (it was some Protestant denomination rather than Catholic). I forget how I got out of it.
Then there was day camp. Day camp was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I ubruptly quit scouts afterwards. It was five long days of hell. The first day I thought it would be alright, and didn't mind going. The whole day I had to be outside though, which it was the middle of the summer in South Georgia, and I'm about the palest person on the planet. In addition to that, we had to bring our own lunches, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but my councelor guy in charge of my group had some old trailer thing for us to keep our lunches in, and it got infested with ants just about every day. I ended up home sunburned, and hungry. The second day I didn't want to go so badly that I reverted back to crying like a 3 year old for like an hour. Sadly, it didn't work. I returned home even more sunburned and hungrier. We were essentially forced to go swimming three days out of it as well, which caused my back to get even more sunburned, and since I used to like to do handstands in the pool for as long as I could, my legs ended up getting sunburned as well. I was a burnt mess. I don't go outside anymore.
Another odd thing my mom used to do in elementary school was refuse to buy me shorts of a decent length. I used to beg her to stop buying me these stupid jean-shorts that would only go about 3/4 of the way to my knees. It took until I was in like 6th grade to get a pair of damn shorts I would wear. I wore long pants every day of the year in 5th grade. I don't wear shorts anymore either.
My mom followed the stupid ESRB ratings on video games like they were the law as well. I had to wait until I was fricking 13 to play Street Fighter because "it has blood in it, and you'll mimic what you see." It of course was always there taunting me because my older brother had Alpha 2. I used to sneak playing Wolfenstein 3-D and Doom on my brother's computer when he was at school though. Oddly, my parents didn't really care about Wolfenstein (or really, my mom didn't care. I think my dad was rational enough to only care about the behavior following me playing such games). I've only recently gotten in to 2-D fighters, but now they're just about my favorite genre of games.
