I think the whole purpose of this anyways was to give the economy deflation and actually give ores and important role in maplestory, besides upgrading your lower level gear, which no one does.
It would also give a point to the Claw Stimulators, etc.
(really, who forges items with them currently? yet i still got one while on Subani's Legacy.)
