^The Metroid prime trilogy is one of the best games (well, 3 games) on the system by far.
Mario Kart Wii is almost a must have for multiplayer gaming on the wii.
The Legend of Zelda : Twilight princess is pretty good, and is a wii launch title so you can get it nice and cheap now if you look around.
If your son likes Mario games, Super Paper mario wouldn't be a bad choice either.
Super Mario galaxy is a very good game too.
I'd have to disagree with warioware smooth moves though, Ii've not been able to get anyone to play it for very long, from any age group.
Edit: Since he's 8, fair warning, metroid prime trilogy and twilight princess both carry teen ratings. I don't think theres anything particularlly unsuitable for children, especially in Zelda, but thats up to you.
Oh, and if you don't mind buying download only titles for consoles, there are quite a few older mario games up to buy on the wii shop channel (needs the wii connected to the internet, for simple reasons
)
