I don't see why people are so surprised. I thought it was fairly obvious that CWKPQ was "Adventurer Only" given that KoC couldn't CWKPQ. Arans have less freedom than Adventurers, it even says so on the character creation screen. While that obviously isn't official proof, it shouldn't be surprising that Arans can't do something that Adventurers can.
Besides, HT Pendants aren't that bad either. You get about 7 more accuracy and an easy +22 Int for HP Washing. HT Pendant and Zhelm together means you can always wash at least once per level. Arans have enough power as is, do they really need more?
