I don't think that's true, at least not in general - Hollywood very much plays to popular stereotypes. Especially gender roles.

They play to popular stereotypes because that's what they are - popular. It's what makes them money. However, the actors behind the characters and the crew behind the movies are typically very liberal voters. It's something that's frequently joked about at the Oscars.
