well, according to Churchill,
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts"
When looking at this topic, I immeadiately think of Tiger Woods and Mike Vick for some reason.
Woods: All the success in the world, yet in the last few weeks, all of that has become irrelevant with the whole affair (with like 6 different women?) thing.
Vick: Again, all the success in the world, then dog fighting. However, even after something like that, he is slowly rebuilding his image.
Neither is permanent with enough determination, in my opinion.
