I never got into Shoddy. I didn't even bother trying it out. I just play the DS games normally and battle whoever over wifi.
Oh, and I usually use Pokemon that I like, regardless of what tier they are. However, it seems a lot of Pokemon I like end up being bumped up in tiers. I liked Aerodactyl before everyone started using it, back when it was UU. I always liked the Porygon family, and made sure to get them in the older games because I thought their concept was cool. What do you know, it turns out to be loved in D/P when its evolution gets a huge boost in Sp.att.
I'm just glad there are still Pokemon on my team that are UU, but as of right now my favorites are mostly OU and BL.
It doesn't matter if your favorites were in which tier, as long as it isn't UBER-tiers. As long as you can beat an opponent, I think that's what matters. I used mostly OUs, but sometimes, I'll use UU and BLs mostly because I like the Pokemon's appearance.
Ex: SHEDINJA, Scyther, etc.
Believe it or not, even the rarely used Pokemon can still beat a team full of OUs, with the right movesets and stats. I got sweeped by a mono-bug team back then when I played against my friend in class. Guess who wiped out my entire team? I had a team of 1 of everything: Metagross (phys w/ explosion and salac berry), Gardy (spe), Bliss (spe. wall), Skarm (phys. wall), Snorlax (tank), Regirock (phys w/ explosion and Choice Band)
A Scyther wiped out like half of my entire team, for the most part.
