There were over 25,000 runners at the start line. Runners are organized in "corrals," with the fastest runners being in the first corral (closest to the starting line) and slowest runners being in the last corral. Hubby and I were in corral 14. The race started at 6:15 am, but hubby and I didn't cross the start line until what... almost half an hour later? So the 3:46:xx time you see is 3 hours and 46 minutes after the start of the race. The chip time records a much more accurate time, from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish.
