Really just based on your preferences. I'd actually say Death Note is more along the lines of a Geass-like story if you haven't seen it.
I've tons of recommendations, you just have to tell me what stuff you're into. I have a wide variety of anime below my belt, so I'm sure to find something in the genre of your choice, since I'm into lots of crap. Want comedy? A specific kind of comedy? Action? Slice of life? Serious? Gag/parody show? Romance? General cuteness show? Mech? One with a good story? Mystery? Horror? Something that doesn't really tell you the answers fully and needs you to think a bit?
Etc. etc.
