How do you pronouce "Potato"?

There is no one right way to say it. My girlfriend is from Ireland, I speak English like an American. She says tomATO, I say TOMato. Both Ireland and America have been speaking English "for a while," which is the "correct way?"

That's why we should go back and start speaking Latin where every letter has only one sound.
