Did you try making the Rathalos set? It's pretty damn good for now. It has Att up [large] and up to this point I have 303 def just from the set >

I attempted, won't work. I'm missing Rathalos Webbing or something, and there's a certain item I can't obtain from a 2-star quest Rathalos in the guild. So I'd have to fight him from the Village Elder quests instead, and I'll be able to make the armor eventually.
