For me, my first semester in college was a nightmare. I didn't know how to manage my time at all, I slacked off a lot. After my 1st semester, I learned from it and studied more. One of my favorite college professors said this to me, which sparked something in me, and I ended up doing a lot better:
"Look. Don't be a moron. You have potential. You're getting a mid-C in this class, I realize the materials are intense, this is CISCO sh't. You know better than that. Get your sh't together, man. Don't try either, just do. Screw the games and sh't, look, after classes, I go home and play WoW all the time. Point being, just stop procrastinating, study more, do your sh't. Get your act straightened out, bro."
Yes, I am not fcking kidding, he said something along the lines of that, I can't remember every single EXACT word, but it's pretty much that... >_> He drilled it into my head. After my 1st semester, I had motivation partly because of that professor, that and my classes were fun, very fun. I had lots of fun programming CISCO routers, working with switches, and seeing how information travelled across a LAN and a WAN by using a network simulator. Loved all 4 of my CISCO semesters, made my 1st 2 years very exciting, although I also admit, the materials were very intense and mind-numbing.
Also, I realize I don't want to work Retail forever . . . I want to get a "real" job and work with computers, and do something with my life. That's how I push myself to study most times.
