I think you've tried this but didn't copying a backed-up base.wz file from someone who's successfully patched help you patch? I used to back up my MS folder and C/P any file the patcher gets stuck at, it went smoothly. Besides, base.wz is very small in size, I'm sure a lot can offer help.
