Because we can and it's free is not a meme, in my humble opinion, it's a source of endless amusement for anyone wanting to make fun of Nexon. There is a slight difference, because a meme is a source of lulz, whereas "because we can and it's free" is most often the TARGET of lulz. I don't particularly care because I get lulz either way.
Afro: I really don't know about chan, but as you've said, everyone keeps telling me that 4chan and GD attract the same clientele... including the Gaia mods. You haven't known lulz till a mid-tier GD Gaia mod tells you that she (yes she) finds the Pedobear "adorable," (direct quote.) And a top-tier GD Gaia mod told me over AIM, "are you kidding, of course I go to /b/, their pomegranate is hilarious." When I see those same people issuing bans for things I know they regularly laugh about, well, to me that's lulz.
The problem with GD is there ARE usernames, so most of them "try too hard." In their cases it's the same as trying too hard to force the feces out of their rectums, mainly because the stuff coming out of their rectums and out of their mouths is, well, the same.
