DFO is definitely more fast-paced and action-packed than MS. MS has a handful of fun classes and there are a lot of things to do, but when it comes down to it the depth of the combat system is definitely not as good as DFO. MS takes very little skill and even if you suck at the game it usually just means you train a little slower and you have to buy an autoloot for your pet, while DFO actually takes a bit of timing and skill to beat dungeons and PvP (although you a lot of button-mashing still works in most cases, I think. The only class I've played is a Nen Master up to level 20, though). However, I don't think that's enough to make DFO the better game. For one, DFO pretty much has to be played with friends to be fun. I got my roommate playing with me and it's pretty fun doing dungeons together. It's kind of a throwback to Diablo and Gauntlet and definitely a good game if you like co-op multiplayer beat-em-ups. But there isn't a lot of multiplayer interaction going on. The chat interface is subpar, and even though there's a ton of people around the game has a completely linear series of quests that kind of forces you into specific areas to level up (simply doing dungeons without any goal in mind is awful exp most of the time), so you'll rarely find a party that will stick around for more than 2-3 runs. And there's not a lot to do outside of dungeoning and PvPing, so there's really no sense of community.
Another thing that may bother you, but that is unrelated to gameplay, is the complete lack of avatar customization. Everyone looks the exact same, the graphics are really crappy, and most of the avatar customizing involves NX and none of the limited selection of things to wear looked very appealing to me.
Definitely worth a try if you find some people to play with, but I can't see it as something I'd stick to.
