Most relationships that "stay good" for that long of time usually stay like that because both parties realize that at their age they're not exactly "fresh" material and need to find someone they can "settle" for unless they want to be alone the rest of their lives. That, or there's other ties outside of the relationship itself keeping them together (family, they have kids and can't afford to leave, etc.)
The spark in most of these relationships have usually vanished by that period. They're simply with each other because they don't want to be alone, and that's the best they've got. Most people that enter in these kinds of relationships only do so when they're past their prime ages. How many young couples in their early 20's do you see sticking with the same person for the rest of their lives and actually enjoying it?
Sure, not all relationships turn into a pile of crap by the end, but a vast majority of them do. Even if people are "together", it doesn't mean they still feel the same way for each other as they did when they first met.

Just because two people last in a relationship, doesn't mean that they're loving it. At the same time, it doesn't have to mean they hate each other (some do), but they certainty aren't the picture of "happily ever after" you see in stories all the time.
At this point, you have to judge for yourself if the constant nagging and annoyance of someone else is worth enduring to get those occasional moments of comfort from that person. The occasional moments you have with one another that are actually still enjoyable, which, lots of relationships don't even have anymore as time passes. And no, I don't mean sex, if that's what you're thinking.
