Hi Matt *licks*
It's just like that brand new toy that comes out. You're a kid and see the commercial on TV.
"MOM! MOM! I WANT THAT! I WANT IT!"
But then your mom tells you no, because you got bad grades on your last tests. You want it more than anything, you feel like it'd be so awesome to get it. You want it in your grasps right at that moment. So you fix up your ways, work harder and earn a higher grade on the next couple of tests. Your hard work pays off as your mom finally gets you that toy you wanted.
"FUCK YEAH!" you're probably thinking, you play with it all the time. Sooner or later, you begin to get tired of it.
You realize that even though it was awesome at first, it's lost it's effect on you. You may still like it, but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. By this point the paint job has chipped off in some places, revealing it's ugly underside. Some of the features it used to have just don't work anymore. You hardly play with it, or even pay attention to it for that matter. The toy you wanted so badly didn't really change your life like you thought it would. It provided temporary amusement and comfort at first, but in the end you stayed the same.
This is how a relationship usually ends up, except after you'll probably be stressed out or depressed by the time you've reached the end. And during the relationship, while that paint is chipping off revealing the ugly underside, you're getting annoyed a lot more than a toy you can put away whenever you want. Unlike that toy, you can't just put it down whenever you're tired of it. Trying to throw it out would be a difficult task in itself.
People expect so much from a relationship. As if their problems will be solved and they'll instantly become the happiest being on earth.
I personally find it better to be alone. I don't have to deal with anyone else, I don't have to worry about spending my own personal time catering for anyone's needs but my own. I don't have to worry about if I'm not giving enough of my time to anyone else. I can enjoy my interest to the fullest. I can do everything in my home, without having anyone stopping me to tell me they want to use the computer, or that they want to spill their stories of their problems on me. I don't have to deal with being jealous of my special someone hanging out with her male/lesbian friends for questionably long periods of times. Or have to worry about the possibility of her hiding things from me. Sure, it may not be for you, that's fine and all. Just don't assume that it's for everyone.
The way I am, I not only accept it but I'm glad. Sure, I'm what most would consider a failure at life. But I'm happy with what I do, and in the end that's all that matters. I don't care how you think my life should be. I don't care about your standards of a "perfect life".
