Windmill can hit multiple targets, as can Air Raid which stems from it, or Mach Kick, if one has Triple Clutch. Headshot, often considered to be a single-target move, has an incredibly high piercing rate, often allowing one to hit even three enemies with very high damage. We actually have not that many super armor moves; only three, and they're not very helpful. One is JackSpike, which benefits greatly from SuperArmor, but in PvP, is horrible if you fail to connect with anything in the small hitbox in front of you--you become open for a counter-attack easily. Revenger is also a move that isn't that great, but SuperArmor is what makes it what it is. Once you're hit, you can activate it for SuperArmor, and then allow a brief moment of possible escape, but the point is to not get hit in the first place by enemies, so Revenger would be just a little icing on top of Ranger skills. We're actually very linear because of the cap at level 40. If the cap was higher, we would be able to get more Air Raid, thus increasing the Y-axis moving capability of Windmill. I'll be honest--we have almost no Z-axis moves other than Gatling Gun. Just my two cents Mas, nothing against you.
Maybe we should talk about x, y, and z's in the Cartesian coordinate system. >_>
[color="#cc8899"]You'd be surprised. I've seen rangers pulling down Witches and myself while well above them (directly) with...headshot? Anyways, while you have mob control, to a degree, you have to be right in the mob to use it well, meaning you're open to a lot of damage. Launchers hit a large number of targets quickly, immobilizing some (or at least reducing movements), and can combo a mob into oblivion between Steyr, Gatling, Flamethrower, Fire Pillar (moving flamethrower), FM-92 Stinger, (Charged) Laser Rifle, Cannon Ball, Quantum Bomb (you get the idea). Every attack we have is a long ranged multi-target attack that can either be charged for massive damage or held/tapped for continual damage. Even our default attack hits a wide range vice a narrow bullet path.
Do Rangers have some mob control? Yes. Are they mob oriented? No, not at all. Proof of concept: Go fight Great He'etako in 1st spine. Are you able to completely prevent any summons from ever even being visible simply from your normal attack routine on the boss? If not, you are not mob oriented.
Reverse concept: Do Launchers have 1v1 control? Yes. We have BBQ, Jack Spike, Windmill, Rising Shot. Does that mean we are 1v1 oriented? No. Without a build whose sole purpose is one really flashy combo (that ultimately wastes mana and accomplishes very little), the most we can do is a hit-and-run BBQ+Steyr+Flamethrower/Cannon Ball/Stinger and then bombard the x axis with attacks until we can BBQ again.
