Yup vitamin B12 is made by microorganisms...and plants and animals are unable to produce it. Typically if you aren't getting it from eating meat, you are okay if you still eat dairy products/drink milk. For vegans...there are supplements or fortified foods from which they can obtain vitamin B12.
