Can someone tell me how the newer version of BoS/BoF works?

Anyone know how the updated version of Blessing of the Sprite/Fairy (in KMS and MSEA I think?) work? Right now GMS just has the older one that can only connect knight-adventurer, but how exactly does the newer one work now that we don't need an adventurer to make Knights in some versions?
