I recently found the same virus on my mom's computer. Symantec has a fix you can download for it.
I don't claim to have some great understanding of computers and how they work, but it could just be a number of simple registry errors? If that's the case you can download CCleaner and use the registry fix function on it to see if it will fix it for you. You can also use it's other function to clear out your temporary Internet files, etc.
