The Nexon logo itself is a block... so they decided to capitalize on that and expand in an attempt to create a 'recognizable' brand that people can 'identify' with, a cube being far too generic.
Now they have to connect the old brand to the new and they chose to start the process on their flagship product that has the largest user base. As far as these things go that's pretty typical.
I hate Marketing.
