The problem there is that the people who update the list have to be aware of the need to do that, and a slight fudge can skew the entire table. Since the table itself is generally just a collection of IDs and Values edits to it can easily have unintended effects if you don't fully understand what it's doing and don't have an interface that makes the results clear by showing you the calculated effect of the change.
