a cygote is a person
It's a matter on the definition of a person. What is a potential person, and what is a person? Is a person a living being that can survive on its own? If that's the case, then abortion is not killing a person. Is a person a growing and living human being? Then abortion is killing a person.
Also, not thinking morally, one could look at the consequences of banishing abortion. Desperate people would kill their own babies in some way anyway, even though it's obvious that not a lot of people would do so. But if they were forced to keep the baby, would this have a positive or negative impact on the world today? Would this be a good thing to do in China?
Also, taking a pill which would kill/hinder potential persons, is that the same as killing a person?
There's a lot of questions regarding abortions. First off, one need to define why one consider abortion to be a bad thing (e.g. killing a person) and thus explain why it actually is that bad thing (it is killing because any melted egg and sperm is considered as a person, as long it is growing or/and is alive)
If one consider a person through the biological facts, a lot of issues appear. Is a person a being looking like a human? Is it born from a human? Is a person a being with 2 arms and 2 legs? Fact is, it's hard to define "human".
