You people don't even begin to know how broken the system is. Let's look at elementary school. You are by law to attend, from 8-4pm (a job). You get homework assignments that reiterate what you learned in class. Now this is where it gets broken. Homework is nearly 35% of your grade period. This goes through honestly high school. If you don't know how to do it in class most likely you won't be able to do it at home especially when the 'example' is like 2+2=4 and the problem you are trying to solve has fractions with curly q's and banana peel rammed up the equal signs ass.
I don't know about other schools but here we have to be in class at 7:17 sitting on our asses. Late? Detention, Late again? Suspension. This is a public school and believe me they stick to it. You get 4 blocks, each about 90 minutes long of unbearable monkey classwork. Then you go home with about 3 hours of total homework (Not like you need a nap when you get out of that mind numbing prison or anything) just to repeat the next day with the Group B cycle of teachers.
The teachers are underpaid, overworked and really see's most kids as someone whos going to cause trouble. See what they teach in teachers school(LOL) is that if a kid misses an assignment, messes up a test, or what have you, theres no room for negotiating, you werent prepared you fail, thus life has the same concept. Well, being out of school for about a year with a state job I can say it is not the same. They give you this false sense of "end of the world" if you don't fullfill your obligations, which honestly sometimes you have to cut thigns to make up others.
Also I'm paying for a frekin class to learn, not get a teachers opinion, a book slammed in my face to teach myself the other 75% of the lesson. You want to know something pineappled up? My father can't use me as a tax break for being a dependent with low income yet the government can use his income against me for student loans/grants. Not only that but you're asking for a 5k loan and end up paying 10k back off. It's a two tier system, you either got it or you don't. Oh you want to have a decent education so you can progress farther in life? Oh that doesn't matter; do you have the money to pay or not.
The school system needs a revamp, end of story. That's just in annapolis maryland though, I don't know about other states.
