Game Economies Versus Real Life
#10
I think it's pretty similar in a few ways. For one, it's all about Supply and Demand which is the most basic of economics. If everyone wants Glove Att 60% scrolls, and supply is low, then prices will be high. If no one wants the +2 stat rings, then prices drop. But there's greedy people in MapleStory which makes price gouging an everyday thing. The other was is when something new comes out. When the iPhone came out, everyone wanted one. They were sold out, and whoever sold them (eBay), they sold for a high price. Same applies to Maple, everyone wanted Spectrum goggles when the came out, so the price was high.

Aside from that, I do not like Maple Story's economy one bit. I try to avoid buying certain items, for fear that I'll get fucked over for it. I do on the other hand buy underpriced things then sell them for the normal price. Also, getting rare items like iTCG are always nice to have.
