I don't know who originally said it, but I think it applies:
The wise man judges his achievements as compared to his personal goals, whereas the fool judges his achievements as compared to the achievements of others.
I'm completely a casual player. I'm level 115, which by today's standards is a complete noob. That doesn't bother me one bit though. I've gotten there on my own, without leeching/2x/nx/etc. and I'm proud of that accomplishment. Current goal is 4th job, which I expect to hit in oh.. maybe a year or so.
Along the way, I've done lots of things that I'm also proud of, such as soloing bigfoot at 110ish, soloing HH/Crog/Jr Rog/etc. All of those guys were (or are still) able to me in 1 hit, so I know it's not something that anyone can do. Does it matter to anyone else at all? I don't expect it to.
Reaching a specific level has never meant much; it just means you spent more time and/or money on the game. It's not a reflection of skill whatsoever... which is why I don't care about the new curve either way.
Also, for what it's worth... Before this weekend, I hadn't played since Xmas. I didn't even notice a different exp curve. I only know about it because of this thread
