Guilds, some things I've pondered about.
#28
I personally believe that guilds are meant to be both a good source of conversation, and a good resource for finding connections to people you may not know personally who you wish to deal with.

I've only been in a few though, so my ideals are a bit limited in experience.

I joined a guild with the friend who invited me to the game in the first place shortly after they came and was later kicked by an errant jr.. The friend who invited me had been banned (yes, it turns out he hacked), but I still wanted a group to be with so I contacted them and joined again. A lot of time passed, I became a jr., and the guild became entirely inactive, so after much debate I left for a break of that guild to another, somewhat famous guild that I knew a few jrs. of. Later, after some ups and downs, that guild completely fell apart at it's roots and I spoke with my old guildleader. I took over the old guild and renamed it as "History" in hopes of bringing it back. I had some successful alliances and met a few more very good friends in that time, but overall, I failed at bringing back the old spark of our guild.

I recently disbanded the guild and tried out one of my friend's guilds, but the general conversation there was too sexually oriented, so I opted to leave and remain guildless as I am today.

Guilds themselves are tools. It is all about how you use them and what you have in mind when crafting them. Merchants use them for a price network; others for power; some for friendships; and even others still for textsex... As with any tool, it in it's nature is not inherently good or bad; all is based on how it is used.

P.S. tl;dr other posts, so I don't expect others to read mine either really.
