New Laptop
#2
For the cheaper alternative, I would go for this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...8093382833 instead of the one you've posted, of course you can add in the 12 cell battery if you want. Reason being that it's an LED lit LCD but don't expect to play other games. This one is made for people who are out with their laptop most of the time, away from plugs (if you're taking your laptop to lectures or the library there are seats with plugs, lots of them, so that doesn't count).

The more expensive one you've posted will have better performance, the CPU is SLIGHTLY better, but you won't notice the difference between the cheaper one during everyday use. ONLY time you will see the difference is during large calculations or gaming. This is where the DEDICATED graphics card comes in. You will be able to play most games on mid quality full resolution no problem.

Now about the battery, like I said before, you if you travel a lot and is away from plugs AND play games not too different (graphics wise) from maple, then it would be a good choice, the 12 cell will last you a long time.

Getting a 12 cell battery for the more expensive one is not recommended, because if you want to game with batteries, a 12 cell might last you an extra 20mins. Also, from experience, if you look hard enough, you can always find plugs.
